Social Media Marketing Size Matters - cover picture - photo - cheat sheet blog post

One Size Does Not Fit All on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, Twitter!

Social media sites profile photo and Page cover photo are very important.

Picture is thousand times better than text.

The challenge is that the size is not same for all, for instance for Instagram post you need square image, high resolution, say 1000 x 1000 pixels.  However, same image you need rectangle (horizontal) for other digital platforms.

Whether it’s your Facebook Page, LinkedIn Company Page, or YouTube channel, your cover photo is the biggest image online.

Question is as on now (February 2018) how do you make your images show up the exact way you want it to be?

Without the correct dimensions (width and height), your cover photo might be cropped by social media site, to fit the space available, and client may miss some important detail, like text.

Hope the following cheat sheet will help you resize to fit various sites.  Especially lower half should not have any important text.
  1. Jyoti Social Tip: Moreover, remember, some digital platforms display photos differently on the desktop and on mobile.
  2. Jyoti Social Tip: Leave 40-50 pixels border (virtual) on all side to be safe, so that irrespective of device, mobile, or laptop or large monitor display, image will still look good.
  3. Jyoti Social Tip: If the image is pixelated, use a compression tool such as,  Trimage for Windows, or ImageOptim for Mac; before uploading.

  1. Google+ – 1600px x 900px (ID Profile and Page). 368px x 207px
  2. Facebook – 820px x 462px -Minimum 720 Pixels  (ID Profile, Page, and Group),  1920px by 1080px (Event banner). 820px by 465px (Page video).  Facebook Page cover photo displays at 820 pixels wide by 312 pixels tall on desktops and 640 pixels wide by 360 pixels tall on mobile.
  3. LinkedIn – 1584px x 396px (Profile background). LinkedIn Company Page: 1536px x 768px. Minimum size is 1192 pixels tall by 220 pixels wide. LinkedIn will show a bigger cover photo on mobile!
  4. YouTube –  Video Channel-Art size 2560px x 1440px. Challenge is the channel art looks different on mobile, desktop, and TV. Minimum dimension for upload: 2048 x 1152 px.Minimum safe area for text and logos: 1546 x 423 px. Larger images may get cropped on certain views or devices.Maximum width: 2560 x 423 px. “Safe area” is always visible regardless of screen size. The areas to each side of the channel art are visible or cropped, depending on browser size. File size: 4MB or smaller.  Avoid any important details in the upper-left and lower-right corners of your channel art.
  5. Twitter – 1,500px x 500px. Remember more wide.
  6. Tumblr – 1600px x 900px.

Content creation and Content Curation

What is Content creation and Content Curation?

Content is the secret of social media marketing!

Do you know CONTENT is the secret of the success of social media marketing?

Not only does content drive prospective customers to your website, it’s also an opportunity to establish your voice as an expert in your profession or industry.

Do you know there are 42 Lacs (4.2 Million) new WordPress blogs published every month. But, as more and more content is produced ‘curation’ is quickly becoming as significant as creation.

What to read and what to ignore? Content curation is the process of gathering information relevant to a particular topic or area of interest.

As a marketer we are all on a mission to find and produce high-quality content to share with our fans (who have Liked our Page). A mix of content creation and curation is a winning combination for all marketing teams.

What is the difference between Creation and curation?

Creation
Creating new content should provide your followers with a fresh insight. While you can assure that what you produce is quality, it is very difficult to create content that breathes originality. The biggest challenge is making content stand out from the ''noise''.  Creating advertisement kind of post is necessary for publicity but do it sparingly. Create content that adds value. People will Like it.

There’s a lot of expectation that comes with content creation. Everyone wants to know that their work is valuable to their online community. You will not like your content to be lost in the clutter. But, while creating your own content comes with a unique set of challenges, it is also a way to establish authority within your online community. By sharing your expertise and showing a genuine interest in resolving key issues, you begin to solidify the brand image.

But this eagerness to create content, can often lead to businesses flooding the internet with more in order to be seen. Here is where curation comes in…

Curation
Curation is the act of discovery. Curation is the sorting through and presenting content that you’ve found. The process can be a long one and often includes a lot of filtering, reading, arranging and using tools to publish the content in a format that is easy for followers to digest.

You’re searching for those hidden treausre on the internet and presenting the ‘best of’ to your audience. Why is this valuable? Because, you’re doing the hard work for them. You search. They’re presented with amazing content that is relevant. News that they can use.

Curation isn’t necessarily easier than creation. Even though you already have something to work with, 800 words of dribble is no better than a blank page! You still have to be mindful and choose quality, well-researched content.

Give credit to other content creators and build a relationship with them. Now that we have established the difference between the two, here’s what you can gain from marrying creation and curation.

Reasons to Combine Curation & Creation
  1. More time = more quality. Curation is your chance to supply your followers with a stream of content whilst you’re still in the process of producing your own. There is less pressure to constantly create your own content to fill a void. You eliminate the risk of hitting the publish button too soon and praying that people will find it valuable. More time just means more quality content.
  2. Offer More Variety. Pictures and video and even event announcements, when there is variety you can constantly feed your followers with different forms of knowledge so that it does not become boring or repetitive.
  3. Build Relationships with The Right People. By sharing other people’s content, you’re also building genuine and lasting relationships with them. This also allows you to expand your professional network by connecting with other professionals and industry leaders. This may even open the doors to numerous collaborations.
  4. Strengthen Your Brands Authority. Creating your own content can be the beginning of your journey as a thought leader. Authority, rankings and traffic are all relative to the level of trust you’ve built with your audience. And, being considered as reliable is also crucial if you want to keep your current followers and gain new ones.

OK, so how to go about it? Why not publish your own Newspaper?

Curation requires just as much effort as Creation. So, here we propose to create a newspaper.

Paper.li is a wonderful digital platform to create a newspaper pertaining to any industry or any profession. It is possible turn socially generated content into well presented, and easy to navigate, newsletters. This takes away the task of manually searching for content and is delivered to your audience [Customers] daily or weekly.

There are thousands of online newspapers being published regularly.

Here are example of Newspapers

Marketing and Physics

iDEAS WORTH SHARING

Underlying theories of branding explained by Mr. Dan Cobley.  He is pursues both with a passion.  Heisenberg's uncertainty principle, the scientific method and the second law of thermodynamics to explain the fundamental theories of branding.  This video is courtesy T E D.

The brand distribution thru social media marketing gets your brand closer to the customer.  Learn digital marketing to promote your products and services.

The more massive a brand, the more baggage it has,the more force is needed to change its positioning. And that's one of the reasons why Arthur Andersen chose to launch Accenture rather than try to persuade the world that Andersen's could stand for something other than accountancy. It explains why Hoover found it very difficult to persuade the world that it was more than vacuum cleaners, and why companies like Unilever and P&G keep brands separate, like Ariel and Pringles and Dove rather than having one giant parent brand. So the physics is that the bigger the mass of an object the more force is needed to change its direction. The marketing is, the bigger a brand, the more difficult it is to reposition it. So think about a portfolio of brands or maybe new brands for new ventures.

Social Media Marketing in Germany

Guten Tag!
European companies need to increase traffic to their website, to build a strong brand in India, and drive more online sales.  You need to be noticed, to attract targeted visitors in India.

Let us look at how social media is used in Germany:
  • Germany trails behind the US in adopting social media.  Blogs are not yet a part of mainstream media and have no significant influence on public opinion.
  • Only 58% of German internet users are on social networking sites (compared to 77% in the US).
  • The most popular social networking site in Germany is called StudiVZ, however Facebook is quickly gaining market share.
  • Culturally, Germans tend to be very private and do not freely share personal information.  Many still feel that their data is not safe online.
  • Germans place a high value on university degrees or professional certifications and do not trust unofficial sources.
