Content creation and Content Curation

What is Content creation and Content Curation?

Content is the secret of social media marketing!

Do you know CONTENT is the secret of the success of social media marketing?

Not only does content drive prospective customers to your website, it’s also an opportunity to establish your voice as an expert in your profession or industry.

Do you know there are 42 Lacs (4.2 Million) new WordPress blogs published every month. But, as more and more content is produced ‘curation’ is quickly becoming as significant as creation.

What to read and what to ignore? Content curation is the process of gathering information relevant to a particular topic or area of interest.

As a marketer we are all on a mission to find and produce high-quality content to share with our fans (who have Liked our Page). A mix of content creation and curation is a winning combination for all marketing teams.

What is the difference between Creation and curation?

Creation
Creating new content should provide your followers with a fresh insight. While you can assure that what you produce is quality, it is very difficult to create content that breathes originality. The biggest challenge is making content stand out from the ''noise''.  Creating advertisement kind of post is necessary for publicity but do it sparingly. Create content that adds value. People will Like it.

There’s a lot of expectation that comes with content creation. Everyone wants to know that their work is valuable to their online community. You will not like your content to be lost in the clutter. But, while creating your own content comes with a unique set of challenges, it is also a way to establish authority within your online community. By sharing your expertise and showing a genuine interest in resolving key issues, you begin to solidify the brand image.

But this eagerness to create content, can often lead to businesses flooding the internet with more in order to be seen. Here is where curation comes in…

Curation
Curation is the act of discovery. Curation is the sorting through and presenting content that you’ve found. The process can be a long one and often includes a lot of filtering, reading, arranging and using tools to publish the content in a format that is easy for followers to digest.

You’re searching for those hidden treausre on the internet and presenting the ‘best of’ to your audience. Why is this valuable? Because, you’re doing the hard work for them. You search. They’re presented with amazing content that is relevant. News that they can use.

Curation isn’t necessarily easier than creation. Even though you already have something to work with, 800 words of dribble is no better than a blank page! You still have to be mindful and choose quality, well-researched content.

Give credit to other content creators and build a relationship with them. Now that we have established the difference between the two, here’s what you can gain from marrying creation and curation.

Reasons to Combine Curation & Creation
  1. More time = more quality. Curation is your chance to supply your followers with a stream of content whilst you’re still in the process of producing your own. There is less pressure to constantly create your own content to fill a void. You eliminate the risk of hitting the publish button too soon and praying that people will find it valuable. More time just means more quality content.
  2. Offer More Variety. Pictures and video and even event announcements, when there is variety you can constantly feed your followers with different forms of knowledge so that it does not become boring or repetitive.
  3. Build Relationships with The Right People. By sharing other people’s content, you’re also building genuine and lasting relationships with them. This also allows you to expand your professional network by connecting with other professionals and industry leaders. This may even open the doors to numerous collaborations.
  4. Strengthen Your Brands Authority. Creating your own content can be the beginning of your journey as a thought leader. Authority, rankings and traffic are all relative to the level of trust you’ve built with your audience. And, being considered as reliable is also crucial if you want to keep your current followers and gain new ones.

OK, so how to go about it? Why not publish your own Newspaper?

Curation requires just as much effort as Creation. So, here we propose to create a newspaper.

Paper.li is a wonderful digital platform to create a newspaper pertaining to any industry or any profession. It is possible turn socially generated content into well presented, and easy to navigate, newsletters. This takes away the task of manually searching for content and is delivered to your audience [Customers] daily or weekly.

Social Media Marketing Outsource or manage in house

Why outsource social media marketing?

Digital marketing is not just the website and Google ad words, PPC, and so-called SEO.

Are you fed-up with SEO consultant promising first page in Google search engine?

Well, frankly traditional website has limitations.  Moreover, Google is changing the search engine algorithm very often.

Social media is not just for socializing socially.

First, understand the importance.  Social media marketing is:
  1. Networking with the targeted audience
  2. Word-of-mouth marketing on the internet
  3. PRO - Virtual Public Relations Officer
  4. Marketing communications
  5. Where insights or performance reports are available
  6. Results-driven
  7. Investment in the future of your business
  • You want to interact (called engagement) with your customers, and prospects, and you know that social media is where you can do that.  However, you may not know how to go about reaching them there.  Sure, you are on LinkedIn or Facebook.  You comment on your friends’ vacation photos and funny posts.  You post the occasional family picture yourself.  You have many “friends” and you like to Like.
  • My question is how all that is going to help in your business.  Do you really know how do you leverage these networking sites for business?  What about Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Instagram, and all such digital platforms?  This is just the beginning of the revolution in digital marketing.
What is important is that you need to leverage these social media sites in order to market your products or services.  And, to do it professionally, you need to hire a proven, professional, experienced Social Media Marketing consultant Like Jyoti, who has a track record to show.  Let me explain:
You see, using social media for marketing is a whole lot different than using it for personal purposes, that is your ID and not your Company Page.  We use the Page and Group for marketing.  Do not confuse with these three different areas (algorithm) of social sites.
Teenagers use facebook but they use the ID part NOT the Page or Group.  Do not be under impression that because they are on facebook, they know how to manage Page and Group.  It is not recommended to hire young college students or someone just out of school without much business experience, to take on your social media marketing.

A solid understanding of business and marketing is essential.  Maturity and experience are important.  At end-of-the day you will realize that, it is your logo and reputation, which is on the internet, if you realize early, do not wait until end of the day :)

Maere paas social media hai - use digital marketing - festive season coming

Based on popular Hindi movie dialogue from Deewar
"..Yeh dekho yeh wohi main hoon aur yeh wohi tum.  Aaj main kahan pahuch gaya hoon aur tum kahan ho.  Aaj mere paas buildingey hai, gaadi hai, bank balance hai.
Tumhare paas kya hai?  Kyaa hai tumhare paas.
" ................ Mere paas ... Maaa Hai"..

There is a subtle difference between a website and social media sites:  website DNA is 'I am the best'  the attitude is 'sale sale sale...'  where as in a post it is necessary to post that adds value,  share information that customer or prospect may find informative.  In short, content on website and on facebook page is somewhat different.  Posting daily is not a good idea.  People may Unlike if the content is always talking about own product or services.
  • Are you going to give prominence to digital platforms in the festive season?  Leading companies such as Panasonic and LG are doing it.  The world has moved online, you must plan to reach your customers where they actually are.  I can help you upload your videos on YouTube and facebook, or even help you making a video.

  • In the business-to-business (B2B) world, generating qualified leads that turns into sales can be a tough proposition.  Many companies have trusted their social media campaigns to me with confidence.   Contact me for social media marketing.
  • With the increased use of social media by business-to-consumers (B2C) marketers, many B2B businesses are looking at the feasibility of using social media to achieve their objectives. Friends I have five years’ experience in managing various digital platforms.
  • Note I have used caption feature of YouTube to add subtitles, user can translate the same in any language! You may turn on / off using the button on right side bottom corner.  This video is on my YouTube channel and is embedded here in this Blog.

Are you ready for content marketing in 2014?

Majority of marketers are now using social media.

Digital marketing tips about Do's and Don't with links to various social media marketing sites.

"I am the best"

Social media is not only about you, do not blow your own trumpet only in your posts.

People are tired of listening to 'I am the best' dialogue.   Instead engage them with useful information.   Recently one educational institute founder posted his achievement, and boasted about students placement and so on.   That is ok, but posting on several other Facebook group that is not relevant to the post, is not a good idea.  FB Groups are usually focused groups.  For example posting about car sale in a meditation group is a strict no no.  It is better to give advertisement and say so.

What is expected is to post relevant information that your audience would be interested in.  The secret is in posting higher-quality content consistently.

Posts on Pinterest is appreciated more because pictures are easy on eyes and does not require much brain processing.  Make focused boards and Pin regularly.  See Pinterest example.
It may be a good idea to start digital marketing in other languages.  It is possible to reach wider international market by adding translator to your English sites.  See this video explaining social media marketing in Hindi
Try to tell short stories that can have bigger impact because attention span of consumers is reducing.
Content is important to extend the brand beyond advertisements.   Once in a while add humor to your content.  Education plus entertainment is a good idea.  Here is example of 'Edutainment' board on the Pinterest.

Use 'Buffer' button on your sites.  This will allow viewer to share on Facebook and Twitter simultaneously. Use ShareThis buttons to let visitors share on their favorite social sites.  See on this Blog page.
YouTube Folder

YouTube allows you to upload videos.  I suggest you make YouTube Playlists to group your videos.  You can ask your webmaster to embed them in your blogs or websites.  I am in position to confidently tell you this because after I created Playlists on my video channels my video views shows marked increase.

Teamwork.  Social media posting is not a one-man team job.  Encourage your colleagues to Like and Share the posts from you site, Page, ReTweet, and so forth.
Picture Albums

Use Flickr to publish pictures and share on social media sites.  Create Sets instead of jumbling them all together.

Keep a separate budget for paid digital marketing services.  Amount need not be large to begin with.  All top social media sites gives professional analytics to let you know the return on investment - ROI. This is anytime better than spending money blindly on other media advertisements.  Except, that my experience with Google is not so good.

  • Think of publishing a newspaper pertaining to your own profession that will engage your audience.  For instance this newspaper will give latest news everyday.  This is better as compared to legacy newsletter.
  • If you an NGO you can use the DONATE NOW button on the Facebook Page.  19 non-profit launch partners have started displaying the 'Donate Now' button at the tops of their Facebook Pages.  Example of Facebook Page with Donate button
  • Convert your legacy website to 'responsive' website.  Meaning your site should adapt to the mobile device. Same site should change as per the size of the device, be it iPhone or tablet or laptop.  Most of the Blogs are responsive.  For instance view this blog on your smartphone.
  • Here is a list of various digital platforms / social networking sites that I have used with corresponding figures to show successful blogging and microblogging.  Study examples of Groups and join them to stay connected. If you are doubt do not hesitate to ask an expert.
  • Use SlideShare or Scribd to publish your presentations.  I have published 60 PPT on the 'Digital Vivekananda' site, and I am happy to note that it has 170K+ views.
Hope these tips will help you plan your social media marketing strategies in the New Year 2014.  You may share your tips / suggestions in the comment box provided below.

Social Media Marketing in Germany

Guten Tag!
European companies need to increase traffic to their website, to build a strong brand in India, and drive more online sales.  You need to be noticed, to attract targeted visitors in India.

Let us look at how social media is used in Germany:
  • Germany trails behind the US in adopting social media.  Blogs are not yet a part of mainstream media and have no significant influence on public opinion.
  • Only 58% of German internet users are on social networking sites (compared to 77% in the US).
  • The most popular social networking site in Germany is called StudiVZ, however Facebook is quickly gaining market share.
  • Culturally, Germans tend to be very private and do not freely share personal information.  Many still feel that their data is not safe online.
  • Germans place a high value on university degrees or professional certifications and do not trust unofficial sources.
