Social Media LIVE # 55 broadcast excerpts

Social Media LIVE # 55 broadcast excerpts: Wednesday 8 August 2018. Pune.

Main points transcription given below, that were discussed during this free online training.

Topics discussed - Whatsapp multiple users video conference call, Cloud security, Google coming back in China, Collaborate not Compete, Keywords and Hashtags, IQ and EQ.

1. Today is Wednesday 8 August twenty eighteen and I am Jyotindra Zaveri, your friendly social media-marketing consultant and trainer.

2. What is cloud? When you store your data, pictures, video on cloud, where it actually goes. Up in the sky? No your stuff is stored in someone else computer! Whose computer? Google, Facebook, Microsoft, and so on. Is it safe? No, it is not safe. It can be hacked. Identity theft also happens.

[More importantly, when you are using somebody’s Server (does not belong to you), what rights you have to complain about security? If you feel insecure, stop using your mobile phone. Stop using internet. Because the moment you are connected on net, thousands of smart hackers are just waiting to pounce on your stuff].

3. Whatsapp competing with SKYPE? How? You can now make video call with MULTIPLE PEOPLE ON WHATSAPP.

4. Keyword or hashtag. Secret technique of Hashtag: After the main post content, add 5 - 10 keywords preceded by # sign (without space). Mainly there are three kinds of # tags.
1. Industry hashtags may not be directly related to what is in the post but are specific to the industry and clients you serve.2. Content hashtags should directly relate to the items in the post itself.3. Niche hashtags are specific to the CLIENTS you are trying to reach.

5. Jyotindra Zaveri suggests: Discuss with your internal team, you will be surprised you will have a good list ready after the brainstorming session. Now make a list of hashtags and keep it handy in a spreadsheet.
6. You may also use Instagram popularity count to decide important tags.
7. You will find popularity post count available only on Instagram. Use this to prepare your list of hashtags for Twitter, etc.
8. There are three kinds of hashtags:
1. Extremely popular hashtags:  100 K to 500 K posts associated with them. 2. Moderately popular hashtags: 10,000 to 100,000 posts associated with them.3. Niche-specific hashtags: 10,000 posts associated with them.

9. Jyoti Social recommends you to use few of each of above.

10. Another useful method is to find what others are searching is using this cool site by Google https://trends.google.com/

11. Chinese will be using Alphabet? Google is welcome back in China. Baidu CEO is preparing for the head-on collision with the giant. August 3, twenty eighteen, Google was seen in China ‘Digital Entertainment Conference’, at Shanghai. Looks like it will be a censored version of the search engine. Let us wait and watch what Baidu will be doing.

12. Last but not the least I would like to mention about IQ and EQ. Intelligence and skill to use Internet Technogym is a good idea. But along with that user should also know the EQ. Emotions.

a. Let me explain by an example. Greed is an emotion. Because of this bad people are able to cheat, by showing carrot of lucky price, gold etc. Greed.
b. Another example is that of anger, violence, and retaliation. Facebook is used in a wrong way. IQ and EQ both are equally important. I think you got the message.
c. Learn all social media marketing skill but along with that also learn what not to do. In ancient literature, Pragya word is used. That is use of your reasoning mind and not drives your action by only emotions.
-
13. All previous LIVE videos, since August 2017, links are published here on my website https://jyotisocial.net/social-media-live-video-jyoti-social/

14. आईए बातें करें. Let us discuss in Hindi also
15. Some talk in Hindi about collaboration and not competition between Indians professionals.

Bye! See you next week on Wednesday 15 August. Same time.
Thank you for joining.

False and morally reprehensible Google searches helped shape opinions

I was just looking back at 2016 and realised the Social Media changed everything

Jyotindra Zaveri for Social Media Marketing in 2017

Use (and misuse) of Facebook, Instagram, etc. increased.

Many people don’t think of Google as social media, but Google’s algorithm, from YouTube, to Gmail, to Docs, are among the most impactful ways we communicate on the internet.

It is an algorithm-driven search engine and is the main way we receive information on the internet.  To some extent, even Facebook search has also helped making opinions.

Looking forward to the New Year 2017 that will bring even more exciting internet technologies.

Is WhatsApp sharing Mobile number with Facebook?

This post is regarding WhatsApp and sharing of Mobile number with Facebook, with your permission, of course!

Users were happy to use it free.  Now we know the reason.

Here is a note by Jyotindra Zaveri based on various blogs by Facebook, WhatsApp, etc.

Facebook acquired WhatsApp in February 2014. And kept free of charge.
WhatsApp sharing Mobile number with Facebook 1984
"In a time of Universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act"
1. WhatsApp has announced that it will start sharing your phone number with its parent company Facebook.
2. As stated by WhatsApp in its recent blog post, it is sharing your phone number with Facebook to “improve your Facebook ads and products experiences.”  It implies that you will start receiving more relevant ads on Facebook and get better friend suggestions. Which I think is good.
3. The Privacy Policy also states “By coordinating more with Facebook, we’ll be able to do things like track data about how often people use our services and better fight spam on WhatsApp.” This could mean that data such as your mobile’s Operating System, mobile country code, carrier code, screen resolution, and device identifier will also be shared.
4. Your number will be shared with Instagram (also a Facebook company).
5. FAQ: can you prevent WhatsApp from sharing your mobile number with Facebook?
Answer by Jyotindra ZaveriYES you can.
You might have agreed already, if so, you can slide the green button as shown below (here is the catch, within thirty days):

Uncheck the green box
Unchecking means that you do not want WhatsApp to share your number and other data for Facebook advertisements and product-related purposes. Tap on ‘Agree‘.
Additional note:
If you have already agreed to the new terms and conditions, you still have 30-days to reverse your decision.
Open WhatsApp > go to Settings > Account > Uncheck the box given against “Share my account info…”
If you do not see this option under Settings > Account, there’s no need to panic. It means that you haven’t updated to the latest version or you are yet to receive the notification about the new terms and conditions.
6. The secret is that the above “opt-out” procedure is partial.
This only prevents WhatsApp from sharing your data for Facebook ads and product-related purposes.
However, your data will still be shared for other purposes which the company puts as “improving infrastructure and delivery systems, understanding how our services or theirs are used, securing systems, and fighting spam, abuse, or infringement activities”.
7.  Good part is that the data-sharing update does not affect your communication on WhatsApp (messages, photos, videos, voice messages, and calls) which continue to be encrypted. This means that they can only be viewed by you and the person you are sending them to.
8. Super secret is:  Users who have agreed to the new terms and conditions still have 30-days to express their disagreement.  After 30 days, once this window expires, they won’t be able to opt out.
9. WhatsApp hasn’t provided a comprehensive list of the types of user data it intends to share with Facebook nor anything about how Facebook will be using this data.
10. Finally:  Don't worry too much, like it or not, with or without your permission; your personal information is already with most IT Giants.  Microsoft started the practice many years back (Remember Windows?), followed by Google, and now Facebook.  The whole technology is referred as BIG DATA. Yes, the database thus crested is a gold mine for advertisements, great revenue source for them.
So, what if you don’t have a Facebook account?  Your number will still be shared by Whatsapp with Facebook, even if you are not on Facebook. Even if Facebook has your number, it is great use to them. However, your number will not be used to create an account on your behalf.
Conclusion: Stay cool and might as well enjoy free services.  You and I cannot do about anything about IT (Pun?).

Importance of LIKE in Social Media - Outsource social media marketing to Zaveri

Google+  +1 is Like LIKE in Facebook

Do not feel shy to Like a post  in Facebook or +1 if you are using Google+

LIKE in the Facebook Page is Follow in Google+

Ek chutki LIKE ki kimmat  tum kya jano Facebook walo?
Oh! Facebook Friends, do you know value of one Like?

What happens when you click a Like or Share button on external websites?
When you click the Like button, it turns lighter in color. On Facebook, a story will appear on your Timeline and may appear in News Feed, just as if you liked something on Facebook.  The Like and Share buttons on other websites let your friends show when you're interested in something. In order for your action to appear on Facebook, you must be logged into Facebook at the time you click the button.
When you click the SHARE button, a dialog will pop up allowing you to add a comment or adjust your audience before posting. On Facebook, a story will appear on your Timeline and may appear in News Feed after you click Share Link in the dialog.
In some cases, when you like things off Facebook, like a movie, athlete or business, this connection works in the same way as when you like a Page on Facebook. It'll appear on your Timeline, you may receive messages or updates in your News Feed, and you may be associated with the connection in Pages, ads or social plugins.
“Liking” a Facebook fan page is different than liking a particular post of online content. While “liking” a news story or a video clip is pretty much a one-shot deal, “liking” a Facebook Page is more of an ongoing relationship.  You will get updates regularly, when you click 'Get Notification'.

Get in the social swing.

Are you ready for content marketing in 2014?

Majority of marketers are now using social media.

Digital marketing tips about Do's and Don't with links to various social media marketing sites.

"I am the best"

Social media is not only about you, do not blow your own trumpet only in your posts.

People are tired of listening to 'I am the best' dialogue.   Instead engage them with useful information.   Recently one educational institute founder posted his achievement, and boasted about students placement and so on.   That is ok, but posting on several other Facebook group that is not relevant to the post, is not a good idea.  FB Groups are usually focused groups.  For example posting about car sale in a meditation group is a strict no no.  It is better to give advertisement and say so.

What is expected is to post relevant information that your audience would be interested in.  The secret is in posting higher-quality content consistently.

Posts on Pinterest is appreciated more because pictures are easy on eyes and does not require much brain processing.  Make focused boards and Pin regularly.  See Pinterest example.
It may be a good idea to start digital marketing in other languages.  It is possible to reach wider international market by adding translator to your English sites.  See this video explaining social media marketing in Hindi
Try to tell short stories that can have bigger impact because attention span of consumers is reducing.
Content is important to extend the brand beyond advertisements.   Once in a while add humor to your content.  Education plus entertainment is a good idea.  Here is example of 'Edutainment' board on the Pinterest.

Use 'Buffer' button on your sites.  This will allow viewer to share on Facebook and Twitter simultaneously. Use ShareThis buttons to let visitors share on their favorite social sites.  See on this Blog page.
YouTube Folder

YouTube allows you to upload videos.  I suggest you make YouTube Playlists to group your videos.  You can ask your webmaster to embed them in your blogs or websites.  I am in position to confidently tell you this because after I created Playlists on my video channels my video views shows marked increase.

Teamwork.  Social media posting is not a one-man team job.  Encourage your colleagues to Like and Share the posts from you site, Page, ReTweet, and so forth.
Picture Albums

Use Flickr to publish pictures and share on social media sites.  Create Sets instead of jumbling them all together.

Keep a separate budget for paid digital marketing services.  Amount need not be large to begin with.  All top social media sites gives professional analytics to let you know the return on investment - ROI. This is anytime better than spending money blindly on other media advertisements.  Except, that my experience with Google is not so good.

  • Think of publishing a newspaper pertaining to your own profession that will engage your audience.  For instance this newspaper will give latest news everyday.  This is better as compared to legacy newsletter.
  • If you an NGO you can use the DONATE NOW button on the Facebook Page.  19 non-profit launch partners have started displaying the 'Donate Now' button at the tops of their Facebook Pages.  Example of Facebook Page with Donate button
  • Convert your legacy website to 'responsive' website.  Meaning your site should adapt to the mobile device. Same site should change as per the size of the device, be it iPhone or tablet or laptop.  Most of the Blogs are responsive.  For instance view this blog on your smartphone.
  • Here is a list of various digital platforms / social networking sites that I have used with corresponding figures to show successful blogging and microblogging.  Study examples of Groups and join them to stay connected. If you are doubt do not hesitate to ask an expert.
  • Use SlideShare or Scribd to publish your presentations.  I have published 60 PPT on the 'Digital Vivekananda' site, and I am happy to note that it has 170K+ views.
Hope these tips will help you plan your social media marketing strategies in the New Year 2014.  You may share your tips / suggestions in the comment box provided below.

Facebook Graph Search, A Social Search Engine

Forget Googling, try Facebook Graph Search

Facebook Chairman and Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg introduces Graph Search features
How is Graph Search improved from Facebook’s existing search tool?

Graph search lets you search for more than you have been able to find before. You can use simple phrases to search for sets of people, places and things that match specific characteristics. These search results help you explore connections between people, places and things, and make fun discoveries.
For example, you can search for friends of your friends in a new city you have moved to, look up photos by classmates from a specific time period, or see photos friends and others have shared with you from famous landmarks.
When you pair up phrases like, Photos of and friends or co-workers and your current city, interests, or likes you can discover things friends have in common that you never realized before, find new activity partners, discover great music similar to bands you already listen to, make your own travel guide, and more.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg is announcing Graph Search, Facebook’s new social search engine. The search engine, with a new integration of Microsoft Bing, ramps up Facebook’s ongoing competition with Internet search leader Google. It also presents a number of potential new revenue opportunities for Facebook.

Zuckerberg starts by saying there are two ways to connect people in Facebook: staying connected and making new connections. Today Facebook’s focusing on how to find information. There are three ways to get information on Facebook: News Feed, Timeline and Graph Search, he says. “People want to know what is going on around in the world around you. That’s News Feed.” The second is Timeline to learn about people
The third way to find things is through search. Zuck calls it Graph Search. This is not web search, he emphasizes. Graph search shows private information that isn’t in web search.
Searching for “hip hop,” for example, gives you information links to pages about hip hop. Graph search is designed to return the answer, not links to an answer, he says. He’s showing a search for “My college friends from San Francisco.”
In the demo: Facebook is showing a search of “friends who like Star Wars and Harry Potter.” The list can also be narrowed down by school, home town, gender, school, relationship and other factors using drop downs on the right hand side of the search results. The list of people also shows what other likes the people have and how they are connected to you.

Searching people: By typing in “friends of friends who are single men in San Francisco and who are from India” in the search box, the search engine highlights those search terms and brings up a list of eligible bachelors for matchmaking example. The search engine reads natural language and turns it into terms to search on.

Searching photos: You can type “photos of my friends taken in Paris” or “photos of my friends taken in national parks.” The searches bring up big tiled photos of the photos in that category. Or you can just search for “photos I like.” This brings in social gestures such as the “Like” that Facebook already has that tag photos and other objects. This is also data that Facebook has that competitors don’t. You can only see the photos that people have shared with you.

Searching interests: You can type in “Movies my friends like” or “TV shows my friends like.” Clearly this section of search has revenue potential. You can also search for “Videos by TV shows liked by my friends” this will bring up just the videos that TV shows have posted. “TV shows liked by doctors” shows that doctors like to watch Grey’s Anatomy. You can also search and see what kind of music people who like Mitt Romney or Barack Obama like.

Searching places: When traveling you can search for “bars in Dublin liked by people who live in Dublin” to get local insider information. Or search for people who have been to Ireland.

On privacy: Facebook has privacy shortcuts in a button on the upper right hand corner. Click on “Who can see my stuff” then photos to see the photos I have uploaded or that are tagged of me. Or you can see just the photos I’ve hidden from your Timeline. You can also send a message to the person who uploaded the photo asking them to take the photos down. For those inappropriate photos.

Zuckerberg is back on stage: This is in beta. And this is a new way for people to see information, he says. He’s showing “bulk untagging” settings. “It’s not enough to build the tools,” he says. Facebook is adding a notice at the top of Facebook to notify them of the changes and how they work.

There’s also a partnership with Microsoft’s Bing search engine included for things that can’t be found in Facebook’s Graph Search. If the search doesn't match what Facebook has, there are other options from Bing search. “When you can’t find what you’re looking for we have a partnership with Bing,” Zuckerberg says. Weather, for example, isn't in Graph Search but is in Bing. “I don’t think people will come to Facebook to do web search. That isn't the intent of this.” But if you need something, Bing is there.

How is Bing integrated?

As you type in a search, if we can’t answer the search, we show suggestions from Bing, he says. “We have a great partnership with the team at Microsoft,” Zuckerberg says. “We continue to work with Microsoft to make web search better with social signals.” And vice versa.

Let us wait and watch.  How you think Google Empire Will Strike Back?

Social Olympics = Socialympics

The International Olympics Committee launched a social media hub that will showcase tweets from the Olympians and connect them with fans.
2012 specially written for Netizens
At the Olympic Games in London, set to begin this month, the official motto of “swifter, higher, stronger” will be supplemented by a new label. If some marketers, fans and athletes have anything to say, these Games will be the first Social Media Olympics — the “Socialympics,” as some are calling them.  [Source: The New York Times, July 01, 2012].
  • Some athletes may spend more time on Twitter and Facebook than the playing field! At the last summer games, in 2008, Facebook had 140 million users and Twitter had about 6 million.  Google announced its adding another service to its suite of online tools.
  • Gmail Meter will provide metrics and analytics about your email habits such as how long it takes you to reply to emails whether or you more likely to write long or short emails. The tool runs a report on your activity once a month and delivers it to you by email.
  • Even the Olympic movement, which sometimes steps into the future with great caution, has warily accepted the idea.
  • Now, with more than 845 million on Facebook and nearly 150 million of Twitter, its no wonder some are calling this year's Olympics "the first social games."

Google’s First April News

On the eve of the Fools Day I remember how Google’s takes the world for a ride every year

Google announced Chrome Browser 3D version, Google told Netizens to download .exe file and even provided .PDF file to make instant "3D" Glasses, too much.  Would you believe?  Millions of people actually downloaded the 3D Chrome and the 3D glasses on the First April 2009.  Hahhaa ha haa..

Here is extreme example of cyber branding - Google announced popular Gmail that works with motion....Google told on April 01 :   "Gmail Motion is a new way to control Gmail using BODY LANGUAGE !   To us Gmal Motion software, you will need a comptuer with a webcam.  Google Gmail will recognize your movement with a spatial tracking algorithm.
We designed the movements to be easy and intuitive to perform and consulted with top experts in kinestetics and body movement in devising them.

Google also had a number of non-hoaxes on April 1. The biggest was the Gmail launch in 2004, something that many had thought to be a hoax.  For instance:
<iframe title="YouTube video player" width="100%" height="407" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/Bu927_ul_X0?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Google's history of April 1 jokes can be traced back to the year 2000 when Google announced the launch of MentalPlex, when Google asked its users to focus on a swirling spiral and project a mental image of what they wanted to search for and the results page displayed humourous error messages.
MentalPlex was followed by PigeonRank, where Google claimed that it used pigeons for its PageRank system.
What is your guess?  What do you think Google prank will be on this April Fool's Day ?

Mango from Microsoft, Ice Cream from Google ?

Smartphone operating systems news:  Google unveiled features of Android 4.0, also known as "Ice Cream Sandwich", in a joint demo with Samsung.   Microsoft has been gradually rolling out the "Mango" update to Windows Phone 7 users.  Both are competing with the leader Apple made iOS 5.

What is new in the Android 4.0 ICS ?

  1. Gmail now previews two lines of each email;
  2. Navigation is easier between messages and calendar days. Swiping left and right will switch across messages (Gmail) or days (Calendar);
  3. Email addresses are turned into “chips” or business-card like ribbons of information, with pictures, contact info and quick links to actions;
  4. Pinch to zoom works with calendar events, which should adjust the number of lines you see on the Calendar screen.
Google debuted Android 4.0 this week in Hong Kong, along with the new Samsung Galaxy Nexus smartphone, which will be the first gadget to run it.  It has a Face Unlock, which is designed to recognize the user's face instead of a password.

Nokia news: Microsoft's Mango Windows Phone 7 is released.

What is new in Mango for developers?
  1. - Background processing
  2. - New profiler and emulator for testing
  3. - Use of Silverlight + XNA together
  4. - Silverlight 4
  5. - IE9 web browser control
  6. - Live Tile enhancements: use of back of tiles and ability to update Live Tiles locally
  7. - Deep linking into apps from notifications and Live Tiles
  8. - Additional sensors; direct camera access, compass & gyro
  9. - Fast application switching
  10. - Networking / sockets for communications
  11. - Local SQL database for structured storage
  12. - Access to calendar and contacts for apps.

And the winner is Apple ..

With iOS 5, Apple added over 200 new features, taking a mobile operating system that was already years ahead of anything else and moving it even further ahead.

Twitter integrated right into iOS 5.  The iOS 5 makes it even easier to tweet from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. Sign in once in Settings, and suddenly you can tweet directly from Safari, Photos, Camera, YouTube, or Maps.
